Beacon of light

Definition of beacon of light: a strong light that can be seen from far away and that is used to help guide ships, airplanes, etc. : a radio signal that is broadcast to help guide ships, airplanes, etc. : someone or something (such as a country) that guides or gives hope to others.

For the last few months, I’ve had this term in my spirit and when I would pray, I would ask God that we can be a beacon of light. I didn’t know the literal meaning of it until I looked it up. I love this definition. It reminds me of the scripture found in Matthew 4:16 “The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death Light has dawned.’” This was prophesied before Jesus began His ministry. Jesus is light and in the midst of darkness, all will see His light shine. Jesus is our beacon of light. We were roaming around in darkness and we didn’t have a clue on where to go until Jesus came to our lives. In the same way, we need to be a beacon of light to those in our world. The word of God says in 1 Thessalonians 5:5 “You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness.” And in Ephesians 5:8 “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light”                                                                                                                                   Ok, so they’re not speaking of literal darkness or light. This is spiritual. When we decide to live for Jesus, His light shines through us so others may see it and run towards it. There are so many people walking around in darkness and not knowing what to do with their lives. We are living in a world that is rampant in darkness and evil. We need to be a beacon of light, a breath of fresh air for others. If we are not the ones bringing hope and light, then we have completely lost our purpose. We need to live, not only for ourselves but for others.                                                                                                                                                                                                     There are far too many selfish self-centered folks in this world. People need a change and they need us THE PEOPLE OF THE LIGHT to shine brighter than we ever have. In these days, let our light shine. Let’s lift up the name of Jesus every day by how we live. This can no longer be only lip service. We cannot think that being light is just by talking about it but it is living by it. When people actually see that we are living what we preach, then we become a beacon of light. A beacon of light is something that can be trusted. You know that when you see that, it is a safe place to run to.                                                                                                                                      People have to feel safe and know they can trust us. The only way to accomplish that is to actually live by the truth.                          This world is in dire need of light. It is in need of children of God to finally stand up and shine their light like never before.

I’ll leave you with this scripture found in Mathew 5:16 “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
