The power of being silent

Finally a blog post! It has been a while my friends, lol. It has been an interesting few months to say the least but I am learning so many things.

One of those has been the power of being silent. I don’t know about you, but I have always been the type of person who was confrontational and always spoke my mind, even if it came out rude. The reason I was this way was because I always felt the need to defend myself. Growing up in a toxic family filled with abuse and chaos taught me that I always had to be on fight mode. I didn’t know how to be any other way.

In the last few years though God has been teaching me the total opposite of that. Especially in the last few months. One of the hardest things to do is to remain silent while others are slandering you, your family, and your ministry. Naturally, you would want to speak up and fight back right? I mean Jesus did right? NOT

Jesus did the opposite. While he knew that Judas was going to betray Him, he continued to serve and love Him. While He was on trial, He had every chance to expose everyone if He wanted. While He was being mocked and ridiculed, He looked at everyone with love instead and while He was on the cross, He uttered the words “father forgive them for they know not what they do”.

You’re probably saying, ” yea girl but I ain’t Jesus” you know the new phrase we all love now is “try Jesus not me’ lol But we are suppose to carry His image and His characteristics. Now I am not saying to be blind to the fact of what others are doing and there will be times that we have to speak up and speak the truth but it has to be Gods truth and not our own.

In Exodus 14:14 it says “The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.” The Lord will fight for you! How many times have we messed this up and instead of allowing God to fight on our behalf, we are the ones fighting, and to be honest, we look ridiculous.

The word of God also reminds us that our fight is not against flesh and blood. I love how the passion translation says it, in Ephesians 6:12 “Your hand-to-hand combat is not with human beings, but with the highest principalities and authorities operating in rebellion under the heavenly realms.[d] For they are a powerful class of demon-gods[e] and evil spirits that hold[f] this dark world in bondage.

We are fighting at a level that will never be effective and sometimes the greatest weapon is to remain silent! Be quiet and allow the Lord to be the one to vindicate you. Remember that truth always prevails and many times truth can only prevail when we just take our hands completely off of a situation.

So I want to encourage you today, if you are tempted to be loud and speak your mind, and you know it is not going to effective, ask the Lord to help you remain silent. Be still and know He is God.

He is the God who fights for you, who loves you, and who will shed light in the darkest of situations. Ask for wisdom and seek wisdom.

I will leave you with these scriptures that have been encouraging me in this season.

Exodus 14:14
The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.

James 1:19
Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;

Psalm 46:10
“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

Proverbs 29:11
A fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds it back.

Ephesians 6:12
Your hand-to-hand combat is not with human beings, but with the highest principalities and authorities operating in rebellion under the heavenly realms.[a] For they are a powerful class of demon-gods[b] and evil spirits that hold[c] this dark world in bondage.
